GTA Characters by Generation

Ever wondered whether Tommy Vercetti is a Boomer or which generation CJ belongs to? We sorted every GTA character into their real-world generation using their in-game canon birth year.

This is a bit of fun. Each of the 29 characters below is placed by their canon birth year — the year implied by the age they're stated to be in their game — and then dropped into the generation they'd belong to if they were real people. So a character who was 35 in 1986's Vice City comes out as a Baby Boomer, while GTA V's Franklin lands as a Millennial. Generations run oldest to youngest, from the Silent Generation down to Gen Alpha. Characters whose ages Rockstar never pinned down are left out.

Frequently Asked Questions

👴 What generation is CJ from GTA San Andreas?

Using his in-game canon birth year of 1968, Carl 'CJ' Johnson lands in Generation X — the same generation as Michael and Trevor from GTA V. Grove Street's finest is a proud Gen X-er.

🕶️ Is Tommy Vercetti a Boomer?

Yes. Tommy Vercetti's canon birth year works out to around 1951, which puts him squarely in the Baby Boomer generation. The Vice City kingpin is technically a Boomer.

📊 How are GTA characters sorted into generations?

Each character is placed by their in-game canon birth year — derived from the age they're stated (or strongly implied) to be in their game. That birth year maps onto the standard generation bands: Silent Gen, Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

🎮 Which GTA protagonists are Millennials?

Franklin Clinton (born ~1988) is the clearest Millennial among the protagonists, alongside GTA IV’s Niko Bellic and Luis Lopez. Most of the older leads — Michael, Trevor, CJ and Tommy — belong to earlier generations.

🤔 Are these generations official?

No — this is a for-fun breakdown. Rockstar has never labelled its characters by real-world generation. We simply take each character's canon birth year and drop it into the generation it would fall under if they were real people.
