How GTA Online time works

Time in GTA Online and GTA V's story mode does not run at real-world speed. The in-game clock moves 30 times faster than the real world: every real second, 30 in-game seconds tick by. That means one in-game minute takes just 2 real seconds, a full in-game hour passes in 2 real minutes, and an entire 24-hour Los Santos day is over in only 48 real minutes.

To work out the current in-game time of day, this page takes the real timestamp from your device, multiplies it by 30 to fast-forward the clock, then keeps only the remainder within a 24-hour day. The result is the live Los Santos hours, minutes and seconds shown above, recalculated several times a second right in your browser.

Because the day is so short, the sun rises and sets constantly. Roughly every 24 real minutes Los Santos flips between day and night, which is why heists, races and free-roam sessions can start in bright sunshine and end under the stars. This clock marks daytime as about 06:00 to 21:00 and night for the hours in between.

Note: this is a mathematical approximation of GTA Online's documented 30× time scale, provided for fun. It is not synced to any live Rockstar game server, so a specific session in the game may sit a little ahead of or behind this clock.

Frequently Asked Questions

⏱️ How fast does time move in GTA Online?

GTA Online runs 30 times faster than real life. One in-game minute lasts 2 real seconds, one in-game hour passes in 2 real minutes, and a full in-game day (24 hours) is over in just 48 real minutes.

🕒 What is the current in-game time in GTA?

The big clock above shows the current Los Santos time of day, worked out live from your device's real clock and the documented 30x time scale. It ticks in real time and updates several times a second.

🌙 When is it night in Los Santos?

This clock treats roughly 21:00 to 06:00 as night and 06:00 to 21:00 as daytime. Because a full day passes every 48 real minutes, Los Santos swings from day to night and back roughly every 24 real minutes.

📐 How is the GTA clock calculated?

We multiply the current real timestamp by 30, then take the remainder within a 24-hour in-game day. That gives the current in-game hours, minutes and seconds. It is a mathematical approximation of GTA Online’s time scale for fun, not a live feed synced to any Rockstar server.

🌆 Does GTA 6 use the same in-game time scale?

Rockstar has not confirmed GTA 6’s exact day-length, but every 3D-era and HD-era GTA — including GTA 5 and GTA Online — has used roughly this accelerated clock, so a similar fast day-night cycle is expected in GTA 6.
